NEWARK, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Morpho Detection, Inc., part of Morpho, Safran group’s security business, today announced its high-speed configured CTX 9800 DSi™ and CTX 9400 DSi™ explosives detection solutions (EDS) have been evaluated by the European Civil Aviation Conference (ECAC) as meeting European Union Standard 3 requirements.

Together, these evaluations give European authorities and airports flexibility in meeting their security challenges with a choice of two EU compliant computed tomography-based (CT) screening solutions. The CTX 9800 DSi, in its new “high speed” configuration, is part of ECAC’s first approvals for systems exceeding the thousand-bag-per-hour screening rate. The CTX 9400 offers operators of CTX 9000 and 9400 EDS an upgrade path to ECAC Standard 3 screening performance, protecting their existing infrastructure investments.

EU regulations say new EDS purchases should meet Standard 3 requirements by 2012.

“The CTX 9400 and 9800 explosives detection solutions customize CT-based imaging technology, originally developed for healthcare, for a wide range of airport needs and aviation security challenges,” said Dennis Cooke, president and CEO, Morpho Detection, Inc. “Successful completion of ECAC evaluation of these powerful EDS allows European airports of all sizes and volumes to adopt with confidence the detection effectiveness, operational efficiency and customer-pleasing speed of advanced, CT-based checked bag screening.”

The CTX 9400 and 9800 represent a progressive series of enhancements for Morpho Detection’s CTX 9000 DSi™ EDS product line. This offers customers the ability to protect their baggage screening infrastructure investments by ensuring a continual upgrade path to the latest EDS technologies through a sequence of regularly-scheduled new product releases.

Morpho Detection’s unique Clarity technology, found in the CTX 9800, enables checked luggage to be scanned by an EDS system at unprecedented speeds with the highest resolution in the industry.

The CTX 9400 and 9800 were tested by the German Federal Police Technology Centre which is participating in the ECAC Common Evaluation Process for Security Equipment, a new unified European process where security equipment is tested to a defined standard across four European test centers designated by their respective authorities.
