AF007 Wing clip incidentPreliminary Report:

At 8:09 p.m. eastern time Monday night, Air France Flt 7 Airbus A380 Clipped Comair Flt 6293 at John F. Kennedy airport in New York. The left wing of the super jumbo jet ran into the tail of the smaller Delta Connection aircraft, a Bombardier CRJ-700, causing it to swing the little plane almost 30 degrees to the left. No injuries were reported on either plane. The Air France flight, bound for Paris, was required to return to the gate and deplane the passengers. The FAA and NTSB will be investigating.

A CNN employee, Jim Bittermann, on the Air France flight reported via CNN:

Looking out the window, Bittermann could see that the last foot or so of the Airbus 380’s left wing had been damaged. The other plane also suffered some damage.

“You could see the part of the 380’s wing hanging down from the horizontal stabilizer of the Delta jet,” he said, having seen the damage firsthand from a seat on the larger plane’s left side.

The Canadian Regional jet was carrying 62 passengers and 4 crew mwembers, according to Betsy Talton, a Delta Airlines spokesperson.
